“Overcoming Challenging Situations in Your Notary Career”

Brian Qualls (Presenter)
“How to become the “go to” notary for an estate planning attorney”
In this session, attorney Brian Qualls will discuss the role of the independent notary for the execution of estate planning documents. The discussion will begin with a brief overview of the documents involved in these signings, including living trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives, so that the notary can feel comfortable in offering these services. Next, Brian will explain why attorneys might choose to use an independent attorney instead of an in-house notary, and describe the typical profile of an attorney that would be a good candidate for using an independent notary. Finally, the session will conclude with a discussion of what the attorney will look for in hiring an independent notary, best notary practices during the signing, and tips to help develop a long term relationship with the attorney over time, so the notary can become the “go to” choice for the attorney’s local signing needs.

“Live Scan Services 2.0 “
Joyce is back with Live Scan 2.0 – She added Live Scan to her notary business 3+ years ago, and presented to the NorCal location last year. If you’ve been thinking about adding Live Scan to your notary business, Joyce is here to recap how to get started, how much it costs, where to get the equipment, and who does the training. Plus, this year, she adds these talking points:
What you need to know if you offer Fingerprint Cards. The variables and what I learned about the proper, acceptable abbreviation codes that the FBI uses, and what you can give your customer to avoid a needless delay or rejection.
How I handle re submissions when my customer lives out of the area. When fingerprints are rejected for poor quality, your customer is instructed to return to the company who originally fingerprinted them. What if they were visiting when you fingerprinted them and now, they are miles and miles away?
